I’ve worked in the benefits consulting, consumer durable and biotechnology industries for 18 years. I had a daily commute of almost 2 ½ hours and spent my days in the office when most of management was traveling, I knew that technology was moving very quickly. So quickly, that there had to be a way for me to continue doing what I loved, but working remotely. After two years of research – I found virtual assistance! So I went on maternity leave from my corporate job in October of 2003, my husband and I had our first child in December, I signed my first client in February, my second in March. And here I am today – working with executive coaches, keynote speakers and non-profits. Now it may sound like a wonderful fairytale, but the truth is – it was very hard – it was harder than I thought it would be.

When I first started my VA business, there weren’t any mentoring programs and only two VA training programs existed. So there I was – me, my desk, phone, computer and an empty file cabinet. I had to work quickly, and I spent a lot of time figuring out if all this was going to work. I read countless articles, books, joined every association I could, and coveted every morsel of information I could find. I did a lot of things that were wrong, and spent too much time and money on things that weren’t even valuable
